Kay Unger
Kay Unger is a modern woman. She has blended personal philosophy and a unique corporate ethic to create a successful balance of comfort, femininity, and strength.
As Co-founder and Design Director of Kay Unger New York, Kay has emerged as a fashion industry leader possessing true symmetry with her customer.
Saratoga Trunk is the only independent fashion boutique in existence to represent this acclaimed designer. Our store on Broadway has a wide selection of fashions and accessories from the Kay Unger line of clothing.
As a designer, Kay Unger has found an inspiration in her couture background. Her initiation into the fashion industry was as an apprentice for Geoffrey Beene. There she showed her appreciation for detail in creating clothing for women. Her exquisite signature prints and intricate hand-beading pay homage to the glamour and sophistication of Hollywood's golden era. Her simple cuts and fresh fabrics are all about the busy lifestyle of today's American woman. Her daytime and evening clothing collections of business wear, casual wear, evening wear, cocktail dresses, party dresses, and gowns represent a keen understanding of ladylike luxury in a modern world.
"I take pride in knowing that when a woman chooses to wear any part of my clothing collection, she will feel special. There is nothing more exciting than a woman's willingness to expose her uniqueness. Our sexy silhouettes and updated classics give every woman the opportunity to express personal style," says Unger.
Her career has always reflected her personal lifestyle. At home, Kay Unger thrives on mixing people and personalities with as much ease as she would colors and textures in the workplace. She approaches entertaining with flair, as a forgotten art. Unger is appreciated as a hostess for her ability to ignite stimulating conversation in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
Born and raised in Chicago, Kay Unger graduated from the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York. In addition to her commitment to her work, she has devoted herself to numerous philanthropic organizations. Through her involvement with the Epstein Fine Arts Fund, endowed by her late father, Unger was one of the first women appointed to the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Unger is an active member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and a former President of the Fashion Group International. During that term, she was responsible for raising more than $250,000 for breast cancer research. In 2002, Kay Unger was named one of the Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World. |
